Former Indian Women’s Cricket Team coach Tushar Arothe has been arrested by the Detection of Crime Branch in an IPL betting case on Monday. He has been captured in a connection with an IPL betting racket during match between Kings XI Punjab vs Delhi Capital, where Kings XI Punjab defeated Delhi Capitals. The IPL betting racket was busted from Arothe’s cafe in Alkapuri, Gujarat.
Jaydeepsinh Jadeja, DCP of Detection of Crime Branch said that they received a tip-off from someone that the betting activities are happening in the Cafe Stock Exchange in Alkapuri. There was a big screen placed to relay IPL matches. Adding on, he said that they kept conducted the raid on Monday night during match was played.
The police arrested 19 people from the cafe including Arothe and Hemang Patel and Nishchal Mitha, who were partners of the cafe. The phones were seized and the data was checked, in which they found betting apps in all the mobile phones of 19 people captured, which includes some of the college students as well.
Later, all the 19 arrested people were released on the bail, but their mobile phones and vehicles have been seized. The police didn’t found any of the betting apps in Arothe’s mobile phone. Meanwhile Arothe has told that he reached cafe 20 minutes before teh cops arrived, and he is not at all involved in any kind of betting.
Arothe said that he is not sure if his friend Hemang was involved or not, but he is innocent. I have not committed any illegal activity and I will fight it out for my honour, said Arothe. Whereas Jadeja, DCP said Arothe was suspected of providing his cafe for the betting.
